Checking Account

A checking account is a bank account that allows money to be withdrawn using demand deposit instruments called checks.

When you fill out the name of the payee, the amount then sign a check, the bank will honor the check. If you fill in the name, say John Jones, fill in the amount, say $100, and sign it, the bank will take $100 out of your account and give it to John Jones. Many bank accounts, for instance savings accounts, will not honor checks. It must be an account specifically set up as a checking account.
