New Jersey CPA Requirements

Education Requirements

Credit Requirements: To Sit – Bachelor's Degree; To Become Licensed – 150 semester units (225 quarter units)

Minimum Degree: A Bachelor's Degree with 24 or 30 semester hours in accounting courses (depending on school's accreditation) and 24 in business courses

Additional Requirements: 150 hours (including B.A. or higher degree); 24 semester or equivalent quarter hours in accounting at undergraduate level or 15 hours in accounting at graduate level which includes financial accounting, auditing, taxation, and management accounting

Residency Requirements

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is not required

Minimum Age: 18

Additional Requirements: It is not necessary to be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

Social Security Requirement: Yes

Educational Requirement: 150 hours including Bachelor's Degree

Participates in International Exam Program: No

Experience Requirements: 1 year experience in the practice of public accountancy; the experience includes intensive and diversified experience in accounting or auditing

Ethics Exam: Must pass exam on the laws, regulations and code of ethical conduct in effect in the state of New Jersey
