Montana CPA Requirements

Education Requirements

Credit Requirements: 150 semester units (225 quarter units) required for certification, but not to sit

Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate

Additional Requirements: 24 semester hours of upper division or graduate level accounting courses including at least one course in each of the following subject areas to be approved to sit for the examination: financial accounting; auditing; taxation; management accounting; and 24 semester hours in business related courses


Residency Requirements

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is not required

Minimum Age: None

Additional Requirements: It is not necessary to be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

Social Security Requirement: No

Educational Requirement: 150 Semester hours including Bachelor's Degree 

Participates in International Exam Program: Yes

Experience Requirements: 1 year of experience (2000 hours) 

Ethics Exam: Must pass AICPA Professional Ethics Exam
