Minnesota CPA Requirements

Education Requirements

Credit Requirements: 150 semester units (225 quarter units) plus 1 year experience needed for certification, but, not needed to sit for the exam

Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate with an accounting concentration. May sit with lesser or no degree if experience requirements are satisfied

Additional Requirements: Graduate degree from a business school with 24 semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in undergraduate or 15 hours in graduate level accounting or B.A. or higher degree with 24 semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in accounting at the upper or graduate level

Residency Requirements

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is not required

Minimum Age: None

Additional Requirements: Candidate does not have to be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

Social Security Requirement: Yes

Educational Requirement: 150 Semester hours including Bachelor's Degree

Participates in International Exam Program: Yes

Experience Requirements: 1 year experience in public practice government industry or academia

Ethics Exam: Must pass AICPA Professional Ethics Exam
