Alabama CPA Requirements

Education Requirements

Credit Requirements: 120 semester units, including Baccalaureate degree with concentration in Accounting OR AACSB-accredited Graduate Degree

Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate degree

Additional Requirements: 24 semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in accounting (excluding introductory hours) at the upper division undergraduate and/or graduate level which includes: 9 hours in financial accounting, 3 hours in auditing, 6 hours in taxation, 3 hours management accounting, 3 hours in governmental and not-for-profit accounting.   3 hours in business law concentrating primarily on the Uniform Commercial Code

Residency Requirements

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required

Minimum Age: 19

Additional Requirements: It is not necessary to be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

Social Security Requirement: Yes

Educational Requirement: Candidate has 36 months from passing the CPA Exam to obtain additional education requirements.   150 Semester hours, including 33 semester hours in Accounting and 27 semester hours in business

Participates in International Exam Program: No

Experience Requirements: 1 year in public accounting OR 2 years in the industry (business, government, or college teaching)

Ethics Exam: Must pass AICPA Professional Ethics Exam
