Education Requirements

Credit Requirements: 120 semester units, including Baccalaureate degree with concentration in Accounting OR AACSB-accredited Graduate Degree

Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate degree

Additional Requirements: 24 semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in accounting at the upper division undergraduate and/or graduate level which includes: 9 hours in financial accounting, 3 hours in auditing, 6 hours in taxation, 3 hours managerial accounting, 3 hours in governmental and not-for-profit accounting.  

24 semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in upper division business, including economics, legal and social environment of business, marketing, and finance. Must also include 3 hours in business law concentrating primarily on the Uniform Commercial Code.

Residency Requirements

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required

Minimum Age: 19

Additional Requirements: It is not necessary to be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

Social Security Requirement: Yes

Educational Requirement: 150 Semester hours, including 33 semester hours in Accounting and 27 semester hours in business.

*Candidate has 36 months from passing the CPA Exam to obtain additional education requirements.

Participates in International Exam Program: No

Experience Requirements: 1 year in public accounting OR 2 years in the accounting industry, business, government, or college teaching (or a combination of these industries

Ethics Exam: Must pass AICPA Professional Ethics Exam
