Our Student of the Month for February 2015 goes to Roger Kurtz! Roger has a diverse employment background which includes starting out as an accountant and financial analyst and then changing careers completely and becoming a homicide detective! He just completed his MBA and is working in the accounting industry again and on his way to completing the CPA Exam. Congratulations to Roger on his great accomplishments!
Why did you take Roger CPA Review?: I just finished getting my MBA which was an academic goal (check!). My other goal has always been to become a CPA. I tried to take the CPA exam approximately 8 years ago by purchasing the books and doing it myself. That did not work for me. After hours of research I decided that Roger's CPA Review was the best in the business. My mind is set on passing each section the first time so I can check CPA off of my academic to do list.
How did you hear about our review course?: I researched online for hours and days. I need someone who can keep my attention during lectures and Roger did that when I watched the trial lectures.
What was your favorite aspect of our course?: The lectures and that you offer them on a thumb drive that I can take with me wherever I go.
How has passing the exams affected your personal and professional life?:
After passing AUD, my motivation to pass the remaining 3 sections has increased. Roger's CPA course has given me confidence going into the exams.
Any words of advice for those studying for the CPA exam?: Have a plan. One major reason that I chose Roger is that he has a structured plan for you.
Favorite Quote: I'm a diehard Ohio State alum and fan and the former OSU football coach, Woody Hayes, had some great quotes. When OSU was up 42-14 against Michigan, Hayes went for 2 points instead of kicking the extra point and when asked why he did this Hayes stated, "Because the rules won't let you go for three."
Anything else you'd like to share?: I have had an interesting career. I spent 5 years of my career as an accountant and financial analyst. I decided to try something new while I was still young enough to do it. I was a Homicide Detective in major city for a few years. I recently received my MBA from East Carolina University. After enjoying my career in public service I am back in accounting. The time away made appreciate the profession more. Studying for the CPA exam has increased my confidence and competency in the field.
