Our Student of the Month for January 2016 is Tammy Pham! Congratulations to Tammy for passing the CPA Exam. We we wish her much success in her future endeavors!

Why did you take Roger CPA Review?

The Roger CPA Review course is the firm-sponsored CPA review course provided by GALLINA LLP.

How did you hear about our review course?

I heard about the Roger CPA Review course in college. Roger Philipp presents every semester at the Accounting Society’s Informational Meeting to talk about the CPA exam and why everyone should join the Accounting Society. It was clear that Roger is extremely passionate and enthusiastic about his course since he was willing to introduce it personally to organizations with future CPA candidates.

What was your favorite aspect of our course?

My favorite aspects of the course are the lectures. Personally, I don’t learn well from listening to really long lectures, but Roger’s lectures are concise, engaging, and full of information. On top of that, Roger is highly energetic and has great mnemonics that helped me remember key concepts without getting bored. One of the most difficult parts of studying for the exam is staying focused, and Roger’s energy helped keep me focused.

How has passing the CPA Exam affected your personal and professional life?

These exams are definitely tougher than any other type of exam that I have taken before. With four different parts to the exam, along with juggling work and other aspects of life, I had to learn to prioritize and manage my time as well as maintain self-confidence and motivation in myself.

I certainly feel that passing these exams was a significant milestone in my life, and I have emerged as a stronger individual. I am proud to join the profession of certified public accountants, and I am looking forward to more of what the accounting world has to offer.

Any words of advice for those studying for the CPA exam?

The best common sense advice I have is to find a study time that works best for you and stick to it. Some people (like myself) study better in the afternoons and others prefer to study in the mornings. For instance, I would reserve 2-3 hours in the afternoon just for studying and was able to keep a consistent study schedule. If you put enough time to studying, you will pass.

Studying for the CPA exam is tough, but it is definitely all worth it in the end. Good luck on your exams and happy studying!
