Q&A with Darren Thomas-Menter, Operations Manager at Roger CPA Review
What do you do at Roger CPA Review?
My aim is to ensure that our clients, partners, and Roger staff receive the resources they need, when they need it. This includes keeping our fantastic field team supplied with materials for their events, managing our supply inventories, and overseeing our daily Customer Care operations. The activities change from week to week, but the goal is always the same: Give our students and staff the resources they need to be successful.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Roger CPA Review?
The people! Cliché as it may be, it is incredibly rewarding to work with a team of talented and motivated individuals. Every day brings a new set of opportunities, and approaching these challenges as part of a cohesive and focused team makes the experience just that much better.
How does your current position influence what you’re passionate about?
My role with Roger CPA Review allows me to explore solutions for a wide-range of opportunities. I receive a lot of satisfaction from identifying simple yet elegant solutions for complicated situations, and as part of a growing company in an ever-changing field, I get a number of chances to do just that.
Who has impacted you most in your life and how?
My family. My parents gave me the structure and guidance that I needed, even when I was sometimes a bratty kid, and encouraged me to identify my passions and work hard to pursue them. My sister has educated me on the finer points of sarcasm, while simultaneously proving that two people with such drastically different interests can get along like two peas in a pod.
If you could go back in time and do one thing over, what would it be and why?
I have very few regrets, but I can assure you that bleached blonde tips do not match well with freckles. A lesson I learned in 7th grade, and one that will last a lifetime.
If you could offer one piece of career (or life) advice to recent college graduates, what would it be?
Don’t compare your situation with that of your colleagues, friends, partners, or overly-talented siblings. Find what makes you happy, what gives you a sense of accomplishment, and set goals based on those ideas. Nothing can replace hard work, but pursuing your interests and passions makes the hard work even more rewarding.
What is your favorite quote or mantra?
“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’ ” Muhammad Ali
How do you plan to enjoy the rest of the summer?
Enjoying the California weather and secretly hoping for rain.
