photo-of-guest-blogger-Tyler-RemingtonIt is with great pleasure that Roger CPA Review introduces our newest guest blogger, Tyler Remington! Tyler will be contributing to our blog in order to provide us with his perspective of CPA Exam tips, advice, and an overview of his general CPA Exam journey. Please watch for his blogs each week and give him a warm welcome to the amazing Roger CPA Review community!

I’m a 29 year old Seattle resident. I graduated from Washington State University in 2008 with a B.A. in management information systems and accounting. I worked in tax at a local CPA firm before taking an audit position with the state government.

Prior to studying for the exam, I spent most of my time reading (mostly history, investing, and health), working out, watching movies, and doing video editing for a non-profit. I began studying for the AUD section using Kaplan’s review program. The density of the material forced me to spread the studying out over several months; too long to retain the information.

I took the BEC exam next using Becker’s course. I passed the exam after 7 weeks of intensive studying, but again the book was at times so far in the weeds I missed the high-level concepts. The video lectures were essentially an audio version of the book.

After spending half a day talking to people on forums and reading reviews, I went with Roger CPA to retake the AUD section. Having an explanation of concepts in the lectures made the details easy to remember, the book was heavy on bullet points and lists (so less sifting through information), and the questions were formatted similarly to the real exam. I passed with less than two weeks of studying and am now working on FAR.

I'm looking forward to writing for Roger CPA Review for the next few weeks!
