Tune in for this CPA Exam Tip by Roger Philipp, CPA, on how to successfully balance work, family life, and the CPA Exam.

First of all, study on the go! For example, you can study the course on the iPad, iPhone so you can study while youre commuting or during lunch hours. A lot of time Ill have parents who are traveling with their kids to sporting events, and while theyre there, cheering them on, theyre also studying their course through an iPad. Study early, study late. What I mean by that is, I encourage my students to start the day early. The kids get up at 7, so get up at 4:30. I know youre tired, but youll get a great 2 hours of studying in before the house becomes a rumble. Or, read a book, put the kids to bed, and study late into the night. But try to work that in before or after the day begins. Get a babysitter or find time with your spouse to have them watch the kids. Lets say youre a stay at home mom or stay at home dad. On the weekend theyll say OKAY, your time to get to know the kids. Im going to go lock myself in a library and study for the next 8 to 16 hours! The CPA Exam has to be a giant priority. You have to put aside quiet, uninterrupted time because that is a must. Also, dont feel guilty. God forbid you should feel guilty. The kids dont always understand- wheres mom, wheres dad? But later in life, they will be thankful. First of all, they will be thankful when youre setting a good example by motivating and pushing yourself. But also, theyll be thankful when youre driving them to school in a nice new car!
