CPA Exam Blogger Philip: BEC Preparations

Philip is a resident of the great state of New York, but has inspired and motivated fellow Roger students through online forums and social media platforms across the globe. Philip has already passed FAR and AUD, and is now gearing up for BEC.

Hello again!  I’m getting everything ready for my next study course from Roger BEC.  Today, I want to share with you what I’m doing to get ready for BEC and discuss why I chose BEC next.  First of all, after the AUD exam, I took two weeks of vacation from the studies to spend time with my family, catch up on the Honey-To-Do-List and attempt to recover from the cold I had from the exam.

I always start out by logging into my student account and looking for any textbook updates that I need to print out.  I also print out the course planner.  So since Im doing BEC, I will print out the BEC planner pages.  This is where I get crazy with my Sharpie.  I write the month and date in each block so I know when I need to accomplish everything.  I also look at whats going on at work and home.  So, if I have auditors in house, I can expect some late nights at work; or if theres a birthday in the family, I can expect to lose some weekend study time.  Therefore, I can rearrange my study schedule.  While the planner for BEC says I only need five weeks of study, I will plan and allow for seven.  Sometimes, LIFE HAPPENS, and you need the extra time.  I use that two week buffer for catching up on vids or doing hundreds of MCQs.  I will not schedule my exam in that seven week study window.

I also watch Rogers introductory video again.  This time as a little more critical for me, because unlike FAR and AUD, BEC is only a three hour exam, has less questions and there are ZERO simulations.  I set up my study area, organize all of my materials and books and dive right in.

I chose BEC over REG for two reasons.  Firstly, BEC is next in the study planner, so that really helped.  Secondly and more seriously, BEC incorporates a lot from the AUD course.  For instance, COSO Internal Framework (CRIME) makes reappearance as does IT.  Considering I studied CRIME in depth under Rogers AUD course, it makes sense to go to BEC and review CRIME.

I hope this helps!
