Leading students to success on higher-order skill questions

The new exam is shifting to test students at a more advanced critical thinking skill levels, known as higher-order skills.  To ensure our students are fully prepared to perform well on these problems, we are:

  • Evolving the Roger CPA Review Interactive Practice Question bank: Our team is vetting the entire question bank to ensure questions cover all the representative tasks laid out in the new Uniform CPA Examination Blueprints provided by the AICPA.  Based on these blueprints, we’re adding many complex task-based simulations that will challenge students by testing the higher-order skills analysis and evaluation
  • Giving expert guidance on approaching higher-order skill problems: The course curriculum will include specialized lessons in which we’ll work through sample complex task-based simulations, such as the new Document Review Simulations, and help students learn how to best approach these higher-order skill problems.

Ensuring students feel comfortable and confident with the 2017 CPA Exam structure

To test higher-order skills, the CPA Exam structure is changing to include more task-based simulations.  We know that the more familiar students are with the overall structure and functionality of the exam, the more likely they are to succeed.  Therefore, we are:

  • Updating the CPA Exam Simulator:  The CPA Exam Simulator is reformatting to follow the new five testlet structure laid out by the AICPA.  Students will be able to take an unlimited amount of practice exams, honing their test-taking strategy, time management, and self-discipline under the same grueling conditions of the 2017 exam.  This will even include the new 15-minute standardized break!

Providing the information students need no matter where they are in the exam process

The new exam does not go into effect until April 1st, 2017, which means there is still time to complete a few sections of the exam before March 10th, 2017, which is the last day to take the 2016 version of the exam before the changes occur.  Therefore, once the Roger CPA Review 2017 course materials have launched in December, students will be able to:

  • Upgrade all or part of the course:  New and current students will have the option to choose between the 2016 or 2017 course materials for each of their exam sections. Students who choose 2016 materials can wait to update later, at which point any relevant course work will carry-over, and non-relevant will not.
