Two hours late for REG!

Roger,

I thought I would share this story with you to show my appreciation for your online class…

After putting off the exam and dragging it out as long as I possibly could, I finally had reached the end of my 18 month window, with FAR and REG remaining. I took these last two parts a week apart, spending far more time studying for FAR than REG due to the fact that I was just running out of time. Needless to say, I started studying for REG about 15 days before I had to sit for the exam; and it should be noted that I am not a “tax person” in my firm, so most of this I hadn’t studied or researched since college, 4 years ago.

When I scheduled my REG exam through Prometrics, I was very careful to book my calendar and print off the confirmation of my appointment. Before I knew it, it was time for me to sit for REG. I showed up at the Prometrics office and as soon as I walked in, the woman tracking the appointments gave me this very strange look. I knew it couldn’t be good, but I did what I was supposed to; I showed up for my 3:30 appointment early, I had my ID’s ready, my NTS and appointment confirmation in hand, and had no other papers or belongings with me. So, when the woman called me over, she started flipping through the appointments in her notebook and sighed heavily, “UMMMM…what exam are you taking again, Regulation?”…”Yes,” I replied. “I’m right there,” pointing to my name in her book. “Well, your appointment was at 1:30!” she said. I quickly argued back telling her that no, it was at 3:30. After pulling out my Prometric appointment confirmation, my mistake was glaring back at me….the appointment was for THIRTEEN THIRTY (13:30), not 3:30.

What an idiot I am!! I couldn’t believe it!!  So, the woman in the office suggested I call Prometric’s national office and see what could be done. Prometric’s basically said that it was up to NASBA and after explaining to her that I would have to re-register to take the exam and that I was at the end of my 18 month window to take the exam, it was decided that the only solution was to ask the woman working in the Prometric office to stay past the office’s usual closing time of 5:30. The woman flat out refused because she was not paid overtime and there was no way that she was going to sit in her chair for an hour and a half after closing without getting paid overtime. This I couldn’t blame her for, since it was my mistake anyway. So, after 45 minutes of pure torture (which I deserved for such an oversight), I was able to convince the woman that I needed to take this exam, even if I only had an hour and a half to take it, reassuring her that I would leave at 5:30!

So, I raced against the clock, and amazingly enough, I got through the entire exam in an hour and a half!! I walked out of the room completely depressed…I  only had about 45 seconds for each question and 15 minutes for each simulation. There was no way in this lifetime that I would ever be able to pass that exam. NO WAY!!!

Well, until today, this story was not so funny or even a story that I wanted to share with anyone. Just this morning, I clicked the “Submit” button on the NASBA scoring page and up popped an 81!!! An EIGHTY FREAKIN’ ONE!!!

So, with 15 days to prepare and only an hour and a half for the exam, I know that I couldn’t have done it without this course! Thank you, Roger!!

(And I hope that you can pass this along as a life lesson…watch out for ‘military time’ when booking your appointments!!)

Hallelujah!!
