Facts

Obtaining a CPA license is a requirement to practice as a certified public accountant. CPA license requirements vary from state to state, but there are a few general requirements that each state board and individual jurisdiction adheres to.

How to get a CPA license:

  • Obtain a Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Complete 24 semester credit units in accounting related subjects and 24 semester credit units in business related subjects.
  • Successfully complete all four sections of the CPA License exam
  • Two years of general accounting experience under the direction of an actively licensed CPA. Often this experience can be completed before, during, or after your CPA Exam.
  • Successful completion of an ethics course

Licensure Requirements

Once you have completed these requirements, and any additional requirements dictated by your state and/or jurisdiction, you'll have earned your CPA license.
