The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the agency responsible for setting policy for the Uniform CPA Exam, including overseeing the development and scoring of the CPA exam, ensuring that the CPA exam is up to par with the skill requirements and entry-level knowledge of CPAs, and representing the CPA exam to state boards of accountancy and the profession.

Every year the AICPA releases a list of AICPA exam questions for use in studying for the CPA exam. Exam content changes twice a year, so the AICPA generally releases questions that are retired and not intended for future use in the CPA USA exam. These AICPA exam questions may or may not be representative of questions you will see on any upcoming exams; however it is always useful to include them in your CPA review as it will give you a good idea of the format and type of questions you will see on the exam. Many people even claim that students and professionals that use CPA review materials that include released AICPA CPA exam questions boast a higher CPA exam pass rate.

The AICPA CPA exam is administered at Prometric Testing Centers across the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Mariana Islands.  The AICPA is now working with Prometric and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) to offer the CPA Exam in Japan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates by the end of 2011.  International candidates living in these countries can take the exam in the country they live. All other international candidates will continue to sit in one of the 55 original U.S. jurisdictions. All international candidates must still be licensed via one of the 11 states that currently do not require residency. Candidates are encouraged to research CPA requirements by state.
